Greetings and good wishes to all;

In response to the campus-wide concern about Residence/Orientation and
several issues relating to it,the Institute has created an Advisory
Group
for R/O '98 that will be discussing options and making recommendations
on
many of the hot issues around campus -- namely, residence selection
process,
orientation, FSILGs, Rush, MOYA, housing of freshman, faculty-student
interaction, alcohol...and basically anything else that relates. The
Advisory
Group will be getting the input of members of the MIT community for
their
suggestions on how the status quo can be improved.

I am writing to you to ask for your opinion on any of these topics. How
do you feel about the existing policies on these items; do you think
that
policies on any (or all) of the aforementioned should be changed; do you
think that any should stay as-is;and if you think that something should
be
changed, how so and why? Any thoughts, opinions, requests, or
other input are welcome; I only ask that you make your comments soon and
succinctly as we are on a tight time schedule.

Please send your responses directly to me; don't reply to a mailing list
if
you got this email through one. I will pass your concerns/ideas along
to the rest of the committee as we try to achieve consensus and
implement
the best possible solutions for the entire MIT community. Please send
this
email along to anyone you think might be interested in voicing an
opinion
on this matter

Members of the Advisory Group include Dean Rosalind Williams, Kim
Vandiver
(task force), Suzanne Flynn (chair of CUP), Charles Stewart (task force,
McCormick Housemaster), Andy Eisenmann (dean's office), Paul Gray, Bob
Kaynor
(Planning Office), Holly Sweet (ESG), Ashesh Shah (president, DormCom),
Marion
Groh (president, Student House), Will Shen (IFC), and Pamela Mukerji
(class
of 2001).

Thank you for your time,
Pamela Mukerji
