yes. this company sells a $50 class file that gives you full Java
access to serial ports. the same API works for Mac, PC, etc (you have
to pay $50 per platform, but there are no distribution royalties).

it's pretty cool, simple and it works. on the mac, it works just fine
with the MRJ 2.0 release.
